What is 340B?
There are more than 250,000 people in West Virginia without health insurance and this number continues to grow. Monroe Health Center recognizes this staggering statistic and is working hard to bring programs and help to the local community. Most recently, Monroe Health Center, in partnership with Union Pharmacy, began offering the 340B prescription drug program. 340B is a federal program designed to provide low-cost prescriptions to the growing uninsured population. The federal government mandates that drug manufacturers use the same pricing structure for the 340B program that is used in pricing medications for Veterans hospitals, prison systems and military bases. Thousands of life saving medications are available through the 340B prescription drug program, so rest assured, you will still be receiving the same high quality brand and generic FDA approved medications available to every customer. Nothing is compromised, except the price.
Who Qualifies?
All Monroe Health Center patients without prescription drug coverage qualify for 340B, regardless of age or income. Monroe Health Center’s indigent drug programs may be continued alongside the 340B program.
How Does 340B Work?
Using the 340B program is very simple. There are no forms to complete, no credit applications and no complicated steps to receive your medications. Talk with your doctor or nurse and let them know you do not have insurance that covers prescription drugs. Then, simply take your prescription to Union Pharmacy and the helpful staff will quickly fill your prescription. That’s it.
In order to provide the 340B program discounts of up to 60%, payment is required at the time the prescription is picked up. 340B medications may not be charged to a Union Pharmacy charge account. Cash, check or credit cards are accepted forms of payment on all 340B medications.
